Sometimes when Iggy and I hang out together I tend to bother her. I can tell by the way she gives me that iguana stink eye. I can't help it, she's so cute I wish she'd want to play like a puppy. Unfortunately, she's not that good at playing. I do like to put things on her head so she flicks them off and eats them (I'm easily amused, it's true.)

I've read that you can "play" with your iguana to some extent. Depending on your igg's personality, playing a sort of chasing game may be possible. I'm not entirely too sure any iguana would like that considering how spooked they get over tiny things. Letting your iguana climb up trees, across the curtains or inside a closet (provided he won't get lost in there!) will provide enough entertainment and fun.
Iguanas also LOVE to look out windows, probably more so than any dog or cat I've ever met. If you are constructing your iguana's enclosure I STRONGLY urge you to place it next to a window. This is a really great idea for any iguana but especially one who may be home alone most of the day. I've also known a few iguanas to enjoy watching fish inside fish tanks, too.
If you are thinking of getting an iguana, please make sure they are going to have exploring time. Iguanas like to watch the world from a nice warm spot so don't assume they can just be locked away in a cage and not need interaction!

Ya know, I've looked at these pictures, and other Iguana sites of Iguana-owners "teasing" them.....and I don't think it's right!!! They're not cats, not dogs, and the only life they have in captivity is the one we, the owners, give them. People might think that it's "cute," "funny," for the camera, for pictures online, or whatever, but in all actuality it is down-right TORTURE for the Iguanas! How would YOU like to be kept in a cage, and then when let out, you're poked at, nudged, fondled, and teased with food?! If I were that Iguana, I would want to hang myself by my own tail!!!
ReplyDeletePeople, if you really love your Iguana, have some consideration and compassion for them. You might want to consider looking up Iguana sites on their mannerisms, how to properly treat them, and what not to do to them.
I hope you all will do right by your Iguana if you sincerely want the very best for them, and if you really want them to have a happy life.
I'm sorry, "Iggy's Mom," I wasn't really referring to YOU. You seem to have a very gentle, compassionate, loving touch for your Iggies. I was addressing more or less to the other visitors on your site. The "tickle-torture," teasing and what-not. I just don't want people to be encouraged to pick on their Iggies just because they think it's COOL, or FUNNY and such, just to make other people laugh. The poor, little Iggies probably don't know what's happening to them, and it might traumatize them. I just really, really LOVE animals to death, and I don't want them to be abused in ANY form. It just breaks my heart. Sorry if I seemed way too disdained!
