Careful With That Tail!

Tuesday, December 15, 2009
It has been brought to my attention that once an iguana's tail grows long enough to hang over their basking area, shelf, etc that we should be mindful to move it back onto the ledge. Let me explain this a little better. Iggy loves to throw her arms and legs back when she's relaxing. I love to see it and it always makes me smile. Sometimes I see her leg thrown over her tail (pictured below.) A kind blog reader e-mailed me explaining this 'leg-on-a-tail' may be due to lack of space. Iggy's tail is about 30 inches long or so, pretty darn long, and it's quite heavy, too. If it is hanging off of the shelf there may be a problem with blood circulation.

Now I have no science to back this up and haven't read anything about it. But common knowledge would affirm that this is a possibility. Brian and I are taking special precaution to move her tail so it doesn't hang. She has been relaxing on our bed during the day time so she has the entire bed to stretch out. Here are some new pictures during our extremely relaxing weekend.

Fat and shedding :D
