Hi all! Well, I have some great news and hopefully it should be inspiring to all those who are having trouble potty-training their lovable lizards. Iggy has always been a good girl when it came to pooping in the 'correct spot'. Very rarely did she ever poop inside her enclosure and if she did, well, she had good reason.
For the last 12+ months, I always manually picked her up and transported her to the tub (the human tub, not the one in her enclosure.) 99% of the time she did go, usually pretty quickly. But I SO wanted her to use her built-in tub at the bottom of her enclosure. By some miracle, she has started using it!
She is about two and a half years old now and I never thought she'd pick up a new habit. I was wrong! During our stay at my grandmother's, I was working 40 hours a week at an 8-5p job. I had very little time to tend to her, let alone get her in the tub for pooping. By the time I got home, after a 45 minute commute, she was almost sleeping and in no mood for pooping. I felt horrible. Then one day I came home and voila!- she had pooped inside her tub.
There was no water in the tub, because she always REFUSED to go inside of her. I cleaned it out and started filling it up with about 2-3 inches of water. For the last 4 days she has used the tub for her business! It's wonderful, my boyfriend just flushes it down the toilet, rinses it and fills it back up for her. She no longer has to wait around for me to come home and 'allow' her to use the bathroom.
So, don't give up on training your iguana. They can and will surprise you!
