Iguanas + New Pets

Saturday, August 21, 2010
I know I have talked about this before but I have been getting a few e-mails regarding introducing iguanas to new pets, particularly other reptiles. I am not going to give a lecture about it because every single situation is different. Personally, I would not buy another iguana or another reptile. Iggy is far too much work when I really think about it. I am used to the responsibility now and wouldn't trade her for the world, BUT adding another repti baby to my life would be just too much for me and her.

Someone recently e-mailed me and asked about how to introduce a boa constrictor to an iguana. Um, YOU DON'T!? I don't know much about snakes and I am sure I am coming off as naive to some snake owners but, wouldn't the boa be interested in eating the iguana? Especially, baby or juveniles iggs. I would never want to stress out either pet, and therefor would resist all urges to purchase such a pet. My main beef with these situations is the owners are often very young (high school age, often without jobs) and don't value the lives of their iguana enough to resist purchasing various other pets. It's upsetting to me, but what can I do!

Well, as for Iggy, she is doing great. She is just about two years and 8 months old now. She just went through a big shed and has been eating great. Iggy mostly just lays around in her enclosure and watches tv or looks out the window. She will come out when she wants to (after pooping!) and walk around a bit, but often goes right back "home".  Here are some new pictures of my girl!
